Is the abortion procedure painful?
There should be no reason for a patient to experience pain or discomfort during an abortion procedure. For the comfort our patients we offer a number of sedation options which include IV Sedation, Deep IV Sedation, Advanced Technology IV Sedation, and General Anesthesia. Most patients may experience a small amount of cramping for 10 to 30 minutes after the procedure which generally goes away without additional pain medications. We do have patients that undergo the surgical abortion procedure without any IV Sedation and do very well. Some prefer not to have IV Sedation which can result in discomfort and cause the patient to move in such a manner that can lead to complications.
