Buying Abortion Pill Kit Online | The Hard Reality of Self-Managed Abortions.
People opt for abortions for various reasons. As such, it is crucial that all women looking for the service have detailed information about the methods available to make the right decision.
Is It Safe to Buy Abortion Pill Kits Online?
Ordering any type of medication online is a very risky affair. It is, even more, riskier when it comes to abortion pills because, under normal circumstances, you can’t find them online legally. This essentially means that you can only access them from untrustworthy and unofficial sources. What’ more, what you see online, might not actually be what the seller says it is. So just by ordering online, you are putting your life and health at risk.
Another problem with buying abortion pill kits online is that many people are doing so without consulting a nurse or doctor. In most of these cases, the women are not able to access proper medical services, which means chances of them seeking help if the process goes wrong are very slim.
Furthermore, taking any type of medicine without a doctor’s supervision means you are probably not making the ideal choice about your health. Also, buying medication online without consulting a doctor means you are missing out on any other important advice about your health.
If you visit an abortion clinic like The Orlando Women’s Center, the specialist nurse or doctor will ask you about your health history and then do some examinations to determine if it is okay for you to go for the pill or do an in-clinic abortion. Scheduling an appointment with a medic gives you a chance to know your options.
As convenient and easy as it may seem, buying abortion pill kits online is not a good idea. Abortion pills have tons of risks as well as both long term and short complications. Therefore, if you want to terminate a pregnancy, make sure you consult a qualified nurse or doctor. Taking them carelessly may result in life-threatening side effects or complications. So think about it critically before you click that “order” icon.
For example, if you have blood pressure, anemia, or diabetes patient, abortion pills can be fatal. Similarly, if you are a heavy smoker or HIV positive, avoid abortion pills completely. They can easily damage your fallopian tube or womb, making it almost impossible for you to conceive in the future.
There are currently two main options: an abortion triggered by medication and one performed in a clinic with experienced medical personnel around. Like everything else in life, both methods have their merits and demerits, and one is more effective and safe than the other. This guide will be covering the medical/ abortion pill and its risks.
Abortion with pills, commonly referred to as medication abortion, entails taking two different pills. Your nurse or doctor will administer the first pill known as mifepristone. The drug works by blocking progesterone production in your body, hence preventing the fetus from growing.
The second pill (misoprostol) is usually taken between 24 and 72 hours after the first one at home. It triggers heavy cramping and bleeding within 4 hours after consumption. The main objective of the response is to empty your uterus.
Just like any other drug, there some potential risks associated with pill abortion. Depending on your health and body condition, you may experience certain side effects of the pill, including diarrhea, cramping, dizziness, tiredness, and mild fever. There are also some uncommon complications like infections, long-lasting fever, blood clots, prolonged bleeding, and unsuccessful abortion.
What happens after taking the abortion pill?
As mentioned earlier, medical abortion involves taking two different types of pills. The pills are mostly used before the pregnancy is 11 weeks old. Most people start to bleed and experience cramps about an hour after taking the second pill.
You may also feel nausea, diarrhea, and chills plus the cramping and bleeding as the body tries to push the fetus out of the uterus. You will feel like you are having a painful crampy period along with flu-like symptoms. It is advisable to have thick maxi pads along with heating pads ready to help ease the pain.
Typically, the heaviest cramping and bleeding should end after the pregnancy is out within 3 to 4 hours. Also, people who opt for medical abortion should expect to continue bleeding for a couple of weeks after the process. This may continue until you start your next period, which is roughly between 4 to 6 weeks.
Common Abortion Pill Risks and Side effects
· Intense Pain
After consuming the pills, you will experience intense pain around the pelvic and abdomen areas. It is like menstrual pain, but more severe than that. What’s more, the pain may last for a few hours in typical cases and several days or even weeks if there is a complication.
· Prolonged or excessive bleeding
Taking the medication stops progesterone production and detaches the fetus from your uterus. This may cause you to feel contractions as the uterus prepares to empty pregnancy tissues. Similarly, there are chances you can experience heavy bleeding than an ordinary period of bleeding. Some people also notice clots and lumps as they bleed.
· Diarrhea
Another common abortion pill risk is bowel disturbance and movements. You will feel cramps and a burning sensation in your belly area after taking the pills. This is what leads to diarrhea. While it is not a serious side effect, it is crucial that you take the necessary steps to counter diarrhea and drink lots of water to stay hydrated.
· Severe Cramping
Cramping discomfort is also common. Excessive loss of blood or body fluids is the main cause of the discomfort. You may also experience cramping in other parts of the body. A healthy diet, as well as appropriate fluid intake, can help cope with the cramps better.
· Nausea
Most people feel nauseous after taking abortion pills. Nausea and vomiting are some of the main side effects of the two controversial pills. Also, note that if you vomit within an hour after consuming any of the pills, you may be forced to retake them again.
· Dizziness
People also feel dizzy after consuming the medication. The feeling should fade within an hour or two, however, if it continues for several hours or you start feeling like you want to faint, contact your doctor or nurse immediately.
· Severe Headaches
While the pills save users from the anguish (general anesthesia can help) of undergoing an in-clinic or surgical procedure, the side effects can be very grave. Severe headaches are a common effect after popping the abortion medication. To counter that, rest for a while. You can also sleep.
· Fever
Another abortion pill risk is experiencing chills and fever. This is also a common side effect, and your temperature may rise above 39.4C for about a day or two, which is very dangerous. Seek medical attention if it persists for more than two days
· Smelly Vaginal Discharge
Women who pop the pill also see a smelly vaginal discharge a few hours after. This is not common, but it is a strong indication of a complication or infection. If you experience such, seek medical attention ASAP!
· Failed or Incomplete Abortion
In some cases, the pills do not empty your uterus completely. Some pregnancy tissue may remain inside during the process. In such a situation, in-clinic surgery becomes unavoidable. This is not common and only occurs in around two to ten percent of the cases. Heavy bleeding or you have, along with painful cramps, are signs of an incomplete or failed abortion.
Immediate Complications
· Excessive bleeding
· Damage to the cervix or womb
· Septic or sepsis shock
· Infection of fallopian tubes or uterus
· Uterine perforation
· Death! Though this is extremely rare.
In-clinic vs. medical abortion
Many people prefer an in-clinic abortion because it is like a normal doctor’s check-up and feels more secure and agony-free. Normally, the procedure takes less than 10 minutes, and the clinic medics are always around to offer any emotional or medical support.
Bleeding and cramping are less severe/mild because you will be given a sedative to counter the pain. You only require a single visit to the clinic for the method, and another follow up visit a week or two later to confirm if your uterus is completely empty.
Also, statistics show that surgical abortions are 99% completely successful. On the other hand, abortion pills come with a slightly higher complication rate and risks. For instance, for you to go for the pill, most Physicians and Clinics require you not to be more than 70 to 84 days (10 to 12 weeks) into the pregnancy.
The time to complete the process is not always predictable. Most patient’s pass the pregnancy tissue within 4 to 5 hours of taking the second set of pills. There are approximately 10 to 12% of patients that may not have passed the fetal tissue in 24 hours.
There are a few medical facilities within the US such as Orlando Women’s Center and around the world, where the abortion pill is utilized to perform abortions from 12.1 to 24 weeks and even further if there are maternal or fetal indications.
You are also required to go for a repeat ultrasound to confirm if the process is complete. If not, additional visits may be mandatory to complete the process. Chances of experiencing heavy or prolonged bleeding with hard cramping are also high.
