Our physicians perform Same Day Abortion Procedures using medications that are taken on the first day of the office visit and will cause the abortion to occur generally within 4 to 6 hours (as early as 30 minutes) for patients who are 3 to 12 weeks pregnant. When Mifepristone and Misoprostol are used, 50% of patients are completed within 4 to 6 hours; 75 to 80% in 12 hours; and 90% in 24 hours. Our Same Day process allows for completion without the need for surgery 99% of the time. All advanced second trimester and late term pregnancies (17 to 24 weeks or greater) can be completed in 24 hours or less 99% of the time without the need surgery. The procedure is completed with minimal to no complications.

Many women are concerned about a surgical abortion procedure because of possible intra-operative and post-operative complications. Although surgical abortions are safe; however, complications such as perforation of the uterus, cervical tears, bowel and bladder injury, damage to the fallopian tubes and ovaries can occur.

Privacy is an important concern for most women. Same Day Abortion Procedures allow for complete confidentiality and privacy and do require a driver or escort. A follow-up sonogram is not necessary with the Same Day procedure because a sonogram is performed prior to patient discharge. Patients who cannot remain after taking the medication may return to the office the following day or as soon as possible if they are less than 12 weeks gestation. This procedure is highly safe and very effective.

Patients who receive Advanced IV Sedation do not have to stop eating at midnight before the day of their procedure. Studies have shown that there are fewer complications associated with eating and drinking up to 4 hours before surgery, and patients are able to drink clear liquids up to 2 hours before surgery. Patients who are permitted to drink up to two hours prior to surgery experience a reduction in anxiety and have less stress without side effects or complications such as dehydration and abnormal blood sugars. Advanced IV Sedation produces a rapid onset of sleepiness and a significant reduction in anxiety, nervousness and irritability. Advanced technology medications pose fewer risks and side effects than most modern narcotics. Within 3 to 10 minutes after administration there are no residual effects because the advanced sedation does not remain in the body.
